- Humain, Saudi Arabia’s leading AI company, has introduced the Humain Chat chatbot, based on the large language model Allam, built around Islamic values and heritage.
- Humain Chat can converse bilingually in Arabic and English, while also supporting multiple Arabic dialects such as Egyptian and Lebanese.
- This is a product developed by a team of 120 AI experts in Saudi Arabia, 50% of whom are women, reflecting the country’s commitment to building local tech talent.
- Tareq Amin, Humain’s CEO, called the launch “a historic milestone” in efforts to build sovereign AI, both technically advanced and culturally rooted.
- Allam was trained with datasets and filters reflecting local values, helping regulate information in line with government directions.
- The model directly competes with Falcon Arabic, developed by a government-backed institute in Abu Dhabi.
- Humain took over Allam from the Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA), recruiting at least 95 staff from the agency.
- Humain is owned by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF), announced just before U.S. President Donald Trump’s visit in May. During the visit, Humain also purchased Nvidia and AMD chips for large-scale data center projects.
- Humain’s plan: build 1.9 GW of data center capacity by 2030 and launch new business units in advertising & gaming, alongside a $10 billion venture capital fund focused on AI, cloud computing, and big data.
- While not yet aiming to compete directly with ChatGPT, Humain Chat and Allam mark a significant step toward strengthening local AI capabilities and regional influence.
