Singaporean banks are stepping up the integration of generative AI into banking apps to simplify customer service and automate numerous tasks.
Trust Bank launched Trust AI Ask, allowing customers to ask in natural language about transactions such as spending by merchant, travel, dining, or transportation.
The tool saves users from having to search manually through menus, filters, or months of transaction history to retrieve information.
Trust Bank plans to expand AI into account services, money transfers, and rewards programs.
DBS will roll out a similar feature starting around November, allowing customers to check cash back, reward points, request fee waivers, lock, or replace cards via the chatbot.
Previously, DBS deployed an AI chatbot for corporate clients in July and added wealth management advisory functions for retail clients in August.
OCBC developed the OCBC WoW app featuring virtual relationship managers using real employee avatars to support wealth management services via voice or text.
In late 2026, OCBC will pilot a personalized AI assistant providing information on balances, transactions, payments, and banking relationships to a group of retail customers.
According to Fitch Ratings, AI has the ability to analyze real-time data and understand natural language, making the customer experience more seamless compared to traditional chatbots.
Experts note that AI helps banks lower customer service costs, create cross-selling opportunities, and better leverage data on customer needs.
However, AI is expected to quickly become a standard industry feature rather than a sustainable competitive advantage, due to declining deployment costs and transaction data that has been available for years.
📌 Singaporean banks are transitioning from script-based chatbots to generative AI assistants capable of understanding natural language and analyzing personalized data. Trust Bank, DBS, and OCBC are all deploying or piloting new features in 2026 to enhance customer experience, reduce operating costs, and expand financial services. Nevertheless, experts believe that long-term value will depend on business performance, the ability to sell products, and customer retention, rather than simply adding AI to apps.
