  • The 5 most affected sectors are: wholesale and retail (245,000 jobs), food processing services (203,000), global business services (89,000), electrical and electronics (37,000), and information and communications technology (30,000).
  • Besides the risk of replacing traditional jobs, this transformation also creates opportunities for new, high-skilled roles that align with future demands.
  • TalentCorp identified 60 emerging occupations:
    • 43 occupations (72%) are in the AI and digitalization fields, such as AI engineers, data scientists, cybersecurity specialists, and automation technicians.
    • 11 occupations (18%) are in the green economy, such as sustainability specialists, renewable energy engineers, and energy economists.
    • 6 occupations (10%) are in new technologies, such as automated systems technicians, remote operators, and robotics engineers.
  • The core industries affected include ICT, electronics, aerospace, chemicals, energy and power, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, wholesale and retail trade, global business services, and food processing.
  • Sim emphasized that Malaysia must prepare its workforce by promoting upskilling and reskilling programs to both mitigate the risk of job loss and seize opportunities from AI, digitalization, and the green economy.
